The Emily Reiser Memorial Website Information Page
This website was designed for cable modems or faster connections.
It also loads large media files (many pages have audio and video
associated with them) which may take several minutes to download,
and the audio and video may be out of sync the first time you
view a page.
HINT: The first time you open a page, the video and audio may not
be in the sync intended for that page. For example, the FIREWORKS
page is designed to remain black for about 30 seconds and then a
video file loads. On slower network connections and/or computers
the video may be delayed longer by a slower download rate. For
those pages with audio and video, to be sure you have the proper
sync between audio and video you can wait until you hear the audio
and see the video and then re-click the link to the same page in
the navigation frame on the left. The second time the page loads
the audio and video will be in proper sync. However, remember
that not all pages have audio. The BIOGRAPHY, MOVIES, and
"LIGHT A CANDLE" pages do not have audio.
The site requires at least a 500-MHz Pentium III, but 1.4-GHz (or faster)
P4 computers (or an equivalent) work much better. Internet Explorer 6.0
or higher, QuickTime 7 or higher, and Media Player 8.0 or higher are
required to see all the features.
On Mac OS X the Safari browser is partly supported if you have QuickTime 7
installed, but the audio on most pages does not work. On Mac OS X
QuickTime 7 is used for all video.
On Windows, Media Player must be associated with the MP3 file type. To do
this in Windows XP (non-classic mode): Start->Control Panels->Appearance
and Themes->Folder Options select File Types tab. Scroll down list to MP3
and Click on this file type. Verify that the MP3 file type opens with
Media Player. Now scroll down to the WMV file type and verify that it also
opens with Media Player. Most PCs should come with Media Player already
installed. However, it can be downloaded:
Media Player Here
If a file type is not opened by Media Player, select the file type
in the box, and click the "Change" button. Now select Media Player from the
list that is displayed to open files of that type. Check the "always use
the selected program to play files of this type" check box. Click OK to
close the "Open With" window, and verify that the file type now opens
with Media Player.
Some of the links such as the Hymn "Holy God" have music files of
type MID or MIDI. If you would like to hear this music, select files of type
MID and verify that they open with Media Player. If a change is required,
select MID in the box and use the "Change" button as described above. Repeat
for files of type MIDI.
Click "Close" to close the "Folder Options" window, close the "Appearance and
Themes" window using the "x" box at the upper right. Also, close the "Control Panels"
window using the "x" box at the upper right.
If you have the Task Bar and Control Panels displayed in the "Classic View"
mode, check the file types using Start->Settings->Control Panels->Folder Options.
The rest is the same. When you first open the website, you may also have to
click OK for several "ActiveX" alert boxes on the "MOVIES" page. Click "OK" in
the "ActiveX" alert box. You may also find a yellow alert bar near the top of
the browser window. If this occurs, Click on the alert bar and OK the
downloading of data.
The first time a page is opened, it may take several minutes to open
on older computers and slower network connections. Again for adequate
performance, cable modems are VERY highly recommended. However, once
a page is loaded, unless you clear the disk cache, it will be available
locally in your computer. This means that the second time you click a
link in the navigation frame, it will load much faster, and the audio
will be in better sync with the video. Also, sometimes closing your
browser and re-opening it will load a page faster on the second try.
On the MOVIES page you may get one or more errors saying that a plugin
did not initialize properly. If this happens, Click OK and try
loading the page again from the navigation frame on the left. You may
have to do this several times. If you still cannot get it to load
without errors, you probably can still use right-click "Save File As"
to download the movies, but streaming will not be available. For
assistance contact me at the email address given below.
(The website is best viewed in 1280 x 1024 resolution.)
If you want to change the resolution on a PC, first close the website
window, then Right-Click the Desktop. Select "Properties" in the dialog
box that pops up, and select the "Settings" tab. Set the "Screen
resolution" slider to "1280 by 1024", and click "Apply". The screen
will go black for a few seconds and then redisplay at the new resolution.
Click "Yes" to keep the new resolution setting. Close the "Properties"
dialog box, and reopen the website.
If your computer meets the required specifications and you have it
set up the way you want then,

In Windows XP, if a page seems to lockup your computer, the standard
[Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Del] should bring up a dialog box that will allow you to
end the program. In Windows 98 it sometimes will break you out of your
browser totally or if used twice should restart your PC. (On Macs use
[Command]+[Option]+[Escape].) Finally it should be noted again that
several pages have large media files that take several minutes to load
even with cable modems. Also, be sure to watch very closely for
"ActiveX" alert boxes and/or "ActiveX" alert bars in or at the top of the
main window. If you have any questions, email them to the address
given below:
